Spotlight on Christopher

Christopher is 2 years old.

Heritage: Christopher is of White UK heritage

We are seeking to place this child outside of the Borough.

Introduction:

Christopher has a severe language and communication disorder, which affect his ability to build relationships with people, participate in shared activities and understand what people say in an expected way. Adults have to consistently anticipate his basic needs and interpret his behaviours because Christopher is currently unable to use words, gestures or facial expressions to communicate with others. He is a happy and lively child who shows a preference for playing on his own. His favourite toys are cars and he especially enjoys watching the wheels spin or organising them into tidy lines. He likes a predictable daily routine and finds it difficult to cope with changes because he has an extremely rigid way of thinking.

Two parent adoptive carers or single carer who can provide a lot of stimulation and are committed to working with a range of professionals on a frequent and long-term basis. Potential adoptive carers should have a good support network and Christopher should be the youngest child within his new family.

Development

Christopher eats well when fed as part of a routine by a specific adult and has a healthy appetite. He remains reliant on adults to perform all basic care activities for him such as feeding, drinking, dressing and brushing teeth in the absence of him currently having the necessary understanding, motivation and skills to perform these tasks independently.

Christopher

Christopher currently receives regular input from a Speech and Language Therapist and a Home Visiting Teacher who are collaboratively working towards developing his shared-attention skills and his use of Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS). He is awaiting further assessments to investigate the nature of his social communication disorder.
